Narrative of Justification

Bennett College employs a sufficient number of qualified staff persons who have appropriate education or experiences in library and/or other learning/information resources that allow the College to accomplish its mission.

To determine the qualifications of the library staff, Bennett College has adopted the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Statement on the Terminal Professional Degree for Academic Librarians as the appropriate standard for the education and training of professional librarians. The ACRL standard states “The master’s degree in library science from a library school program accredited by the American Library Association is the appropriate terminal professional degree for academic librarians.” The library is currently staffed by the Library Director and two professional librarians, all of whom hold masters degrees in library science from ALA accredited institutions. The library employs two associate librarians: a Circulation/serials librarian and a Cataloger.  These two library staff members have completed course work toward a degree in library science, and have over 20+ years of experience in the field. Qualifications and job duties for all library staff are defined in a position description used to hire current staff.

Bennett College demonstrates that the library staff is sufficient to accomplish the institution’s mission by recruiting and hiring qualified staff.  The staff and qualification roster is detailed below.

The library Director holds a M.L.I.S. in Library Science and a certificate in Archive Processing.  The Director has worked in both academic and public library environment for over 25 years.  Additionally, the Director has had extensive national and international training in library administration and leadership.
