Department Mission Statement:

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is committed to the preparation of teachers as facilitators of learning through the development and understanding of learning theory and teaching practices that address the interrelatedness of the cognitive, emotional, social, psychomotor, and affective domains.  It is also the program’s mission to provide local, regional, national, and international leadership in teacher education.

 

Department Goals and Objectives:

Strategic Goals:

  1. Conduct annual assessment of student learning outcomes.

  2. Collect and review syllabi for each course to identify Best Practices in higher order learning.

  3. Review accreditation standards on an annual basis.

  4. Review student learning outcomes with particular relevance to graduate, professional school and work preparedness and make curriculum improvement as needed.

  5. Encourage faculty to participate in conferences and training by seeking out and publicizing discipline specific opportunities.

 

Objectives:

  1. Analyze data in the priority areas of the Teacher Education Program.

  2. Develop and disseminate a list of Best Practices for higher order learning.

  3. Maintain NCATE/DPI Accreditation.

  4. Conduct a program audit of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction annually.

  5. Increase support for faculty development via local, state, and national activities.
