The mission
of the Department of Journalism & Media Studies is
to provide JMS majors with a foundation that
includes skills required to become good
communicators in the new millennium. Another aim of
the JMS Department’s aim is to acquire and maintain
standards of Association for Education in Journalism
and Mass Communications (AEJMC), the national
accrediting body. JMS faculty will continue to
encourage majors to be committed to diversity,
multiculturalism, scholarship, and critical
thinking. Also, the faculty will continue to provide
majors with theoretical experiences (e.g., course
work, seminars, and workshops) and a variety of
practical opportunities (e.g., internships, media
practicums) throughout their matriculation.
The JMS
Department aims to prepare students for entry-level
positions in the media industry of their choice.
The use of experiential learning, the acquisition of
the latest technology and equipment, and awareness
of important industry trends (e.g. media
convergence) will enable students to compete in a
difficult environment. |
