The mission
of the Division of Social Sciences and Education is
to prepare professional women for the on-going
challenges of the twenty-first century, to graduate
students who will be productive citizens of the
world and to certify excellence through national
accreditation of all program areas within the
Division.
Strategic Goal 1:
To review the
curriculum and program offerings annually to ensure
currency and relevance and to implement new
offerings as indicated.
Objective 1.1--
Conduct annual assessment of student learning
outcomes for each department in the division.
Strategic Goal 2:
To continue to
create and maintain higher order learning centered
classroom environments.
Objective 2.1--
Collect and review syllabi for each course in each
department in the division to identify best
practices in instruction in higher order learning.
Strategic Goal 3:
To secure
assistance for grant writing for programs that will
expand research opportunities for faculty and
students and to engage them in cutting-edge research
and publications.
Objective 3:1--
Conduct grant writing workshops for the division and
encourage faculty in the division to take advantage
of grant writing workshops, internal and external to
the college, with the aim to conduct research that
leads to publishable work.
Strategic Goal 4: To provide avenues,
internally and externally, through which faculty and
students can showcase and publish scholarly works.
Objective 4:1--
Plan division and college-wide activities where
faculty and students in the division can present
their work.
Objective 4:2--
Assist faculty and students in the division to
attend and present at conferences.
Strategic Goal 5:
To provide
institutional support and technology to facilitate
innovations in teaching, research and scholarship.
Objective 5:1--
Plan division activities, such as speakers at
division meetings, that focus on latest trends and
innovations in teaching, research and scholarship.

Identify funds for technological enhancements
Strategic Goal 6: To work with the
Office of Administrative Support Services to prepare
classrooms and laboratories to accommodate
state-of-the-art instructional equipment.
Objective 6:1--
Conduct an annual assessment of all classrooms and
laboratories within the division with Administrative
Support Services to plan upgrades.
Strategic Goal 7:
To ensure that
programs acquire and maintain all accreditation
standards and meet graduate and professional school
and work requirements.
Objective 7:1--
Review accreditation standards on an annual basis.
Objective 7:2--
Review student learning outcomes with particular
relevance to graduate and professional school and to
work preparedness with all departments within the
division and to make improvements in the curriculum
as needed.
Strategic Goal 8:
To provide diverse,
challenging and stimulating educational expenses for
students.
Objective 8:1--
Encourage faculty in the division to use current
events and real world applications as instructional
techniques.
Objective 8:2--
Plan division activities for faculty and students to
dialog about world events in a forum that encourages
debate and problem solving.
Strategic Goal 9: To provide and
support faculty participation in professional
development activities related to the mission and
goals of the institution.
Objective 9:1--
Encourage faculty to participate in conferences and
training by seeking out and publicizing discipline
specific opportunities.

Allocate resources in the division budget and
encourage allocation in department budgets to
faculty development.
Objective 9:3--
Work with the faculty development committee in
securing and promoting services and programs.

To expose students
to world-views and diverse options through
curricular and co-curricular activities.

Support internationalization of the curriculum in
the division

Promote study abroad opportunities for faculty,
staff and students in the division

Promote workshops and programs in the division on
global opportunities and global experiences
Strategic Goal 11: To provide
opportunities for members of the college community
to dialog on topical issues
Objective 11:1-- Promote programs
within the division, such as brown bag lunches and
forums, for discussion of current events and topical
issues
