The Bennett College for Women Archives Collection is a compilation of
multi-media materials representing its historical presents in the Greensboro North Carolina community and at-large.
College Archives, a repository for the preservation of school records and historical documents of permanent value
pertaining to the life of the College and that of the community, is an integral part of the Bennett College Archives
Collection. Special Collections and Archives holdings include a variety of formats, such as rare books, pamphlets,
manuscripts, scrapbooks, audio tapes, books, videos, CD's, microforms, oral histories, Norris Wright Cuney
Collection, Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Collection, and other materials.
Hours of Service
Hours of service coincide with the library hours by appointment only
according to availability of staff. Library hours as follows:
8:00a.m. - 12:00a.m. Monday through Thursday
8:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Friday
11:00a.m. - 3:00p.m. Saturday
6:00p.m. - 12:00a.m. Sunday
Holiday and summer hours may vary.
Photocopying
- Photocopying must be done in accordance with the Copyright Law
- There are copying restrictions for fragile materials
- All copying must be approved by staff. (Note: Please bring a supply of change, since the copier will
change only $1.00 bills and we do not keep change at the desk.)

AUDIO-VISUAL DUPLICATION
PHOTOGRAPHIC REPRODUCTION
- The Archivist can authorize photographic reproduction for selected photos, therefore request should be
submitted directly to the Archivist
- In addition, photographic reproductions of materials are not to be further reproduced without prior
written permission from the Library Director.
- Originals can not be removed from the facility by researchers
- Researchers are billed for the reproduction cost, plus 30%, for the service. All negatives of
photographs are retained by the library
- Arrangements for mailing or picking up reproductions are made with the staff
- Payment is due when the researcher receives the reproductions
AUDIO-VISUAL DUPLICATION
Researchers are charged at cost, plus 30%, for the duplication of audio or video tapes. This duplication request must be done in accordance with copyright guidelines.
Registration and Security
- Materials in the collection do not circulate. (Note: The Bennett College Library will consider requests from researchers, publishers, etc. for loan of specific titles, items, etc. for review,
reprinting or for micro-reproduction. Also, at intervals the collections maybe closed for inventory,
preservation, conservation, or in off-site storage. If the request is approved by the Archivist in
consultation with the Director of College Library items will be loaned in a spirit of sharing the library's
rich resources with other libraries and scholars, but under conditions that will safeguard the library's
collections, protect library users and recover all costs incurred)
- Researchers are required to have a photo ID when registering to use the collection
- Researchers are encouraged to contact the Library, prior to visiting, to notify the staff of research
interest in order to expedite service
- Only items needed for research will be allowed in research area (briefcases, backpacks, purses, books,
etc. will not be allowed in research area)
- The use of laptop computers, scanners, or cameras must be approved by staff
- Pencils only, no pens
- No food or drinks are permitted
- Requests for permission to publish materials from the collection in any format are submitted to the
Library Director for approval
- Researchers must identify and acknowledge use of the Collections' materials in their document,
publication or reproduction project
- As a courtesy, researchers are asked to extend a fit copy of any publication resulting from the use of
the collection
