Social Work
Department Mission Statement:
The mission of the social work
program is to prepare professional entry level
generalist practitioner for the ethical reduction of
oppression and social and economic injustice and the
enhancement of the quality of life for diverse
at-risk populations.
The mission of the social work
program is accomplished with a curriculum which
consists of a liberal arts perspective and a
professional foundation. The foundation content is
consistent with the Council on Social Work Education
(CSWE) curriculum requirements and includes the
following content areas:

Strategic Goal 1: To
prepare competent professional students for
entry-level generalist social work practice working
with individuals, families, groups, communities and
organizations.
Strategic Goal 2: To
prepare students for practice with oppressed and
diverse populations-at-risk who are in need of
social and economic justice.
Strategic Goal 3: To
prepare students with a broad foundation for
lifelong learning and personal professional
development.
Strategic Goal 4: To
provide a curriculum and an environment which
fosters development of professional values and
ethics that guide social work practice.
Strategic Goal 5: To
provide students with liberal arts based knowledge
that enhances understanding of human behavior, the
social institutions that affect lives, and the
interaction between individuals and the environment.
