WELCOME TO THE BENNETT FAMILY!—
and I don’t use the term “family” lightly. As a unified group comprised of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, faculty and staff, a family is exactly what we are. Our common goal, here, is to support the special ladies in our lives as they journey to become not only the best Bennett Belles they can be, but also the best women they can be. The concept of family is at the heart of all we do, and we all know that home is where the heart is. There is no place like home, and that’s how I feel whenever I am on the Bennett campus—like I’m at home—and I hope you do too.  For some of you, the college experience is new, but you will quickly come to realize that you have chosen the right place for this awesome journey. Your daughter will receive encouragement, advice, hope, understanding, values, ideals, and, most importantly, a sense of faith. That same privilege will be vicariously given to you. So even if this is a first for you, you will soon feel completely at ease because you are not alone.

Speaking of firsts…

In July, I had the opportunity to attend a celebration in the Steele Hall Art Gallery for Dr. Malveaux, who has successfully completed her first year at Bennett College for Women. We are truly honored to have her as the leader of our family. The Bennett Parents’ Association (BPA) would like to congratulate Dr. Malveaux on a job well done. We look forward to working with both Dr. Malveaux and her administration on our future endeavors. 

As the new president of the BPA effective July 1, 2008—incidentally a first for me—I would like to greet you in conjunction with the officers and members of the association. Engulf yourself in the Bennett Family and be Part of the Bennett Experience. Join the BPA TODAY! The BPA is not only for parents but any family member or friend who wants to assist in keeping the flame burning for Bennett.  We would like to encourage each of you to consider joining the Fundraising and/or Recruitment Committees, once you become BPA members.

We invite each of you to attend the BPA Annual Fall meeting to be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 10:00am-12:00pm in Black Hall.  Our Bench/Legacy Walk Dedication will be held immediately following the meeting.  During the meeting you will have the unique opportunity to hear firsthand the state of the college from Dr. Malveaux, meet her executive staff and join committees.
As we embark upon a wonderful year at Bennett, I want Y-O-U, My Bennett Family, to be the first to realize … this is our institution for higher learning.  We must collectively work towards carrying the torch which enables us to be On Fire for Bennett.  We are Bennett … Bold, Beautiful, Boundless.  As the old African proverb states, “it takes a village.”  Thank you for being a member of the community.
