3.4.4 Acceptance of academic credit

The institution has a defined and published policy for evaluating, awarding, and accepting credit for transfer, experiential learning, advanced placement, and professional certificates that is consistent with its mission and ensures that course work and learning outcomes are at the collegiate level and comparable to the institution’s own degree programs. The institution assumes responsibility for the academic quality of any course work or credit recorded on the institution’s transcript. (See Commission policy “The Transfer or Transcripting of Academic Credit.”)

Judgment of Off-Site Review Committee

Non-Compliance

Comments of Off-Site Review Committee

The Off-Site Committee was unable to find the needed policy in the institution’s catalog on the pages cited in the Compliance Certification.  However, the policy was found on pages 28-29 and 55-56 of the catalog. It adequately addressed the issues of evaluating, awarding and accepting credit for transfer, and advanced placement. The committee was unable to locate a policy that addressed experiential learning and professional certificates.

Bennett Focused Response

In response to the Off-Site Committee, the College does not award experiential credit or professional certificates. This information is included in the College Catalog 2008-2009  p.28.

“Bennett College neither accepts, considers, nor evaluates credit toward any non-academic work such as experiential learning or any other related form of study.”
