The Division of Academic Affairs operating under
the banner, “Educating for Success in a Changing
World: From Good to Great,” values the
importance of effective college teaching, scholarly
research, and service as contributing factors that add
to the existing knowledge base and that create new
knowledge. Collectively and collaboratively units and
departments in the Division of Academic Affairs facilitate
the mission of the College through its delivery of effective
instruction and quality academic support services.
Faculty, staff and administrators demonstrate and promote
high academic standards and expectations through leadership,
scholarship, research and public service. As a liberal
arts college for women we value a liberal education that is
grounded in the examination of a diversity of ideas, events,
and experiences.
The Division of Academic
Affairs, which is responsible for the administration of
the academic program, consists of two academic
administrative units: (1) the Office of the Vice
President and (2) the Office of the Associate Vice
President. There are two academic support units:
(1) the
Center for Teaching, Learning, and
Technology, and (2) the
Holgate Library.
Our
faculty members are housed in three
academic divisions and eleven academic departments:
(1) the
Division of Humanities
which includes the Departments of English and Foreign
Languages, History, Philosophy, and Religion, and Visual
and Performing Arts; (2) the
Division of Natural and Behavioral
Sciences/Mathematics which includes the
Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and
Computer Science, and Psychology; and (3) the
Division of Social Sciences and Education
which includes the Departments of Business and
Economics, Curriculum and Instruction, Journalism and
Media Studies, and Political Science, Social Work and
Sociology.

The Division of
Academic Affairs is committed to its goal of improving
the academic standards and competitiveness of the
College. To this end, we will provide a high-quality
undergraduate twenty-first century education to all
students that will consist of a reinvigorated,
practical, and engaged liberal education.
We are committed to
making our liberal arts education–across all
fields—rigorous, inclusive, pragmatic, and socially
responsible. Bennett College for Women will become
an “intentional” institution that will employ resources
and align its practices in purposeful ways to provide a
powerful liberal education to all students.
The Division of Academic
Affairs will continue its endeavors to empower women to
become global leaders by providing a liberal
strengths-based education augmented with specific
experiences in training and research that lead to a
career, promote post-graduate education, and encourage
lifelong learning.
Bennett College awards the following degrees in
16 degree-programs:
Bachelor of Arts:
A Bachelor of Arts degree is awarded to a student who
completes the requirements for a major in Arts
Management, Business Administration, Elementary
Education (K-6), English (Teaching and Non-teaching
tracks), Journalism and Media Studies, Middle
Grades Education (6-9), Music (Teaching and Non-teaching
tracks, K-12), Political Science, Psychology, and
Special Education (K-12).
Bachelor of Science:
A Bachelor of Science degree is awarded to a student who
completes the requirements for a major in Biology
(Teaching and Non-teaching tracks), Chemistry, Computer
Science, Mathematics (Teaching and Non-teaching tracks),
and Psychology.
Bachelor of Arts and Science in Interdisciplinary
Studies: A Bachelor of Arts and Science degree is awarded
to a student who completes the requirements for a major
in one of the six tracks of Interdisciplinary Studies:
Honors Track, Special Admissions Option for
Non-traditional and Medically Documented Learning
Disabled (LD) Students, History, Africana Women’s
Studies, Womanist Religious Studies, and Global Studies.
Bachelor of Fine Arts:
A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is awarded to a
student who completes the requirements for a major in
one of the three tracks of Visual and Performing Arts:
Theatre, Music (Teaching-K-12, and Non-teaching tracks),
and Visual Arts.
Bachelor of Social Work: A Bachelor of Social Work degree is awarded to a
student who completes the requirements for a major in
Social Work.

In
order for a student to graduate from Bennett College,
she must complete all requirements and a major
concentrated course of study in a given department.
Students must also earn a minimum grade point average of
2.0. A student must earn a grade of “C” to pass a
major or cognate course. Students may select a

Students may receive a Bachelor of Science degree
in our Dual Degree in Engineering
program from NC A&T State University by participating in
the Bennett College for Women/North Carolina
Agricultural and Technical State University Dual Degree
Engineering Program. At the end of the first year
at Bennett College students may apply for admission to
the Dual Degree Engineering Program in the Office of the
Coordinator of the Dual Degree Engineering
Program at Bennett College. The following
engineering degrees are offered: Chemical,
Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering.
Pharm. D. Degree: in the
Science/Pharmacy Program at Howard University.
Students may receive a dual degree in chemistry/pharmacy
in which the student earns a B.S. degree in Chemistry
from Bennett and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Howard School

Doctor of
Chiropractic Degree:
in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program at Life University.
Students may receive a dual degree in
biology/chiropractic in which the student earns a B.S.
Degree in biology from Bennett and a Doctor of
Chiropractic from Life University. For more
