New Student Checklist

Home Admissions New Student Checklist

Congratulations incoming Bennett Belles!  We are very excited you have chosen to bring your talents to Bennett College! Now that you have been accepted, there are a few things you need to complete by the listed deadlines. Follow the New Student Checklist below to complete your next steps.

You should have received your login and password from the IT Department to access your BelleNet account.  If not, please submit a ticket now to the IT Help Desk.

Step 1: Log in to your BelleNet account

Log in to your BelleNet account at bellenet.bennett.edu/ics.

Note: You should have received your login ID and password from the IT Department to access your BelleNet account. If not, please submit a ticket to the IT Help Desk.

Step 2: Submit Non-Refundable $150 Enrollment Fee

While logged into your BelleNet account:
  1. Click on Admissions Tab (top of page).
  2. Click on Enrollment Fee Payments (left side of page).
  3. Click on Enrollment Fee $150 (bottom of page).
Credit card payments are accepted through BelleNet.

Payments in the form of cashier’s check or money order can be mailed to:

Step 3: Complete the FAFSA – Opened October 1st!

In order to determine eligibility, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) regardless of income or scholarship offers.

Bennett College also uses the FAFSA to offer work-study, grants, and institutional aid. Bennett College’s FAFSA code is 002911.

The Parent Plus Loan Application will be available mid-April. Please continue to monitor the Department of Education website listed below for the opening of the parent plus loan application.

Students and/or parents are also required to complete the Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling during this process. These documents are electronic and required to complete your financial aid package. Please visit studentloans.gov, LOG IN and click on the applicable links to complete these two documents. PARENTS will need to complete PARENT PLUS LOAN applications and PARENT PLUS Master Promissory Notes by logging in with their own FSA IDs, not the student’s.

Step 4: Submit Housing Application and Meal Plan

In order to submit your housing application, you should have already paid the $150 Enrollment Fee.

While logged into your BelleNet account:
  1. Click on the Campus Life Tab (top of page).
  2. Click on Welcome to Residence Life! Tab (left side of page).
  3. Click on New Student Housing Form (right side of page).
  4. Complete Housing Application, Housing Agreement and Select Meal Plan.

Step 5: Submit your Immunization Records – Due August 1

Prior to entering Bennett College, each student is required to submit proof of immunizations in accordance with the North Carolina General Statutes 130A-155.1.

Step 6: Access Financial Aid Information

Once the Office of Financial Aid has received your FAFSA, a financial aid award will be generated.  In some cases, students and parents are required to submit additional documents to assist the Office of Financial Aid in completing your financial aid package. Please submit this documentation as soon as possible.

While logged into your BelleNet account:
  1. Click on Finances Tab. Read information thoroughly on this page.
  2. Click NetPartner Student (left side of page).
  3. Click Menu in the middle of the page.
  4. Click Documents and Messages. Review the information and submit all documents to the Office of Financial Aid with a status of "Not Received."
  5. Click Menu in the middle of the page.
  6. To access required documents, click on the Forms tab. Select the form(s) needed, complete, and submit to the Office of Financial Aid.
  7. Click Menu in the middle of the page in the blue block.
All students must accept their financial aid award in order to obtain a financial aid package.
  1. To accept financial aid award, click on Accept Awards.
  2. Read the Conditions & Responsibilities of Award Acceptance.
  3. Check the “I agree to these Terms and Conditions” box at the bottom of the page.
  4. Click Submit.

Financial aid counselors are assigned students by the students’ last name. Contact your counselor according the following:

Martinez Washington (ext. 2203 or mwashington@bennett.edu) – last names A-H
Adina Long (ext. 2246 or along@bennett.edu) – last names I-P
Pamala Douglas (ext. 2209 or pdouglas@bennett.edu) – last names Q-Z

Step 7: Obtain Financial Clearance – Due August 5

All students are required to satisfy their financial obligations to Bennett College prior to August 5.  Students who do not satisfy their financial obligations to Bennett College prior to August 5 will lose their housing assignment and course registration.

How to Obtain Financial Clearance?

If the account balance is a positive balance, which means your financial aid awards do not cover the cost of attendance, you must be prepared to pay the balance in full or make payment arrangements utilizing our Bennett College Tuition Payment Plan.

To View Account Balance, make payment or sign-up for Bennett College Tuition Payment Plan:
  1. Click on Finances Tab
  2. Click on Course and Fee Statement
To make a payment:
  1. Click on My Account Balance
  2. Click on Make a Payment
Click to establish a payment plan (must use balance for academic year)

Complete insurance waiver. This option is available for those that have their own health insurance.

Step 8: View Course Schedule

While logged into your BelleNet account:
  1. Click on the Academics Tab (top of page)
  2. Click on Student Schedule (left side of page)
  3. Select the appropriate term 2019/2020 School Year – Fall.
Periodically check your course schedule as changes may occur through the add/drop period (August 23).

Step 9: Attend New Student Orientation – Attendance at 1 session is required

New Student Orientation is mandatory and occurs during the summer months. New Student Orientation is an opportunity for students and parents to become oriented with Bennett College. Each one of the New Student Orientation sessions are facilitated by Bennett College’s professional staff and highly trained student leaders. All student leaders must participate in rigorous training to ensure you receive the highest levels of professionalism. A $150 non-refundable orientation fee will be billed to your first semester tuition regardless of attendance to one of the new student orientation sessions.

Please select one NSO session to attend:

June 12-13 (Wednesday – Thursday)
June 26-27, 2019 (Wednesday-Thursday)
July 10-11, 2019 (Wednesday – Thursday)

Please access the New Student Orientation website to register and to obtain additional information.

Step 10: Submit Final Official High School Transcripts & ACT/SAT Score Reports – Due August 1

All final official high school transcripts must include the graduation date. Final official high school transcripts can be received electronically, via mail, or fax.

SAT/ACT score reports can be received electronically, via mail, fax or print out provided by the students access portal.  SAT/ACT score reports can also be provided by the high school guidance counselor or other school official.

Students who do not submit their Final Official High School transcript and ACT/SAT score report to Bennett College prior to August 1 will lose their housing assignment and course registration.

Step 11: Apply for Scholarships

Bennett College is a United Negro College Fund affiliated institution; therefore, our students are eligible to apply for scholarships by creating a profile and completing an application at www.uncf.org/scholarships. Apply today!

Step 12: Obtain Student ID Cards

In order to receive an ID card the student must have met all financial obligations to the College before an ID card will be issued. ID cards will be issued in the Office of Public Safety during move-in.
  • ID cards are required in order to obtain keys for the residence hall.
  • ID cards are required in order to be assigned a mailbox.
  • ID cards are required for daily access into the residence halls, when entering the cafeteria and at all ACES programs.
  • ID cards are required when using the Library and at any time College officials requests.
  • ID cards must be carried with the student at all times.
Cards lost, stolen or damaged require a $75 replacement fee.

Step 13: Disability Services

The mission of The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at Bennett College is to provide, coordinate, and advocate for services, which enable undergraduate students with disabilities to receive equal access to a college education and to all aspects of college life.
