On Monday, January 30, 2023, Bennett College will host the kick-off of Color Farm Media’s “The Big Payback” Documentary and National Reparations Debates at HBCUs and Other Universities Across the U.S. The kick-off will include a screening of the film and a pilot debate at Bennett College with Debate Coaches Erika Alexander, Rev. William J. Barber, and Joy Reid. The event will be held at Bennett College in the Global Learning Center Multipurpose Room (521 Gorrell Street, Greensboro, NC), starting promptly at 1 pm. Attendees should plan to arrive by 12:45 pm.
Color Farm Media, the team behind the documentary film “The Big Payback,” will partner with HBCUs to hold a series of National Reparations Debates, inspired by the historic 1965 James Baldwin-William Buckley debate. The debates will unite the most brilliant student thinkers in a face-off at America’s universities and colleges, debating one of the greatest questions of the 21st century.
Color Farm Media co-founder, Erika Alexander, who co-directed “The Big Payback” with filmmaker Whitney Dow, will open the debate with an address to the Bennett College students about the importance and power of debate and healthy conversation around challenging issues.
Color Farm Media is partnering with Ben & Jerry’s, who will be on location at Bennett College, and every North Carolina HBCU event, disseminating social impact materials and scooping a special, unique flavor of ice cream in honor of “The Big Payback” film, called “Reparations Now! Root Beer Floats.”
The first phase of the initiative will incorporate 10 HBCUs in North Carolina. The full list of HBCUs participating includes:
Bennett College (Greensboro)
