Library Cards = Student ID
Bennett College students, faculty, and staff must present their current Bennett College ID to borrow library materials.
- Previous versions of Bennett College IDs will not be accepted.
- IDs presented with unrecognizable photos will require additional picture identification.
The following transferability restrictions apply to all circulation transactions:
- IDs are non-transferable when borrowing General Stacks, Special Collections, or Audio-Visual items.
- IDs are transferable when borrowing Reserve Items, Laptops, and Headphones. However, the owner of the ID must be present at the time of the original checkout.
- The owner of the ID on which items are checked out assumes all responsibility for late fines or fees, including any fines or fees accrued due to damage or loss of borrowed materials.
Bennett College faculty and staff may authorize students or other employees of the College to borrow materials on their accounts.
- Faculty or staff must fill out an Authorization to Borrow Form (attached at the bottom of this page) and send it to the library with their authorized borrower.
- The authorized borrower must present a completed Authorization to Borrow form and his or her own Bennett College picture ID when borrowing materials.
- Borrowed items will be checked out on the authorizing faculty or staff member’s account.
- Faculty may check out items for a semester if needed. There is no assessment of fines for faculty
- Please contact the library in advance to verify the authenticity of your signature. Otherwise, processing of your request may be delayed. Borrowing requests will not be honored without verification of your signature.
Loan Periods

Renewals
Reserve Items, Laptops, and Headphones
Reserve Items, Laptops, and Headsets are for building use only and may not be removed from the main floor of the library.
You may renew Reserve Items, Laptops, and Headsets only during regular library hours at the Circulation Desk.
Reserve Items, Laptops, and Headsets may be renewed twice except if all copies of an item are currently checked out and another patron is waiting to borrow the item.
Laptop loans include additional conditions outlined in the library’s Laptop Checkout Agreement.
Certain Reserve Items may offer overnight or extended loan periods (determined by your professor), in which case end-of-semester and final exam period loan restrictions outlined above apply.
Renewals extend the renewal time from the time renewed, not the original time due.
Patrons are responsible for all fines accrued while an item is overdue. Renewal does not expunge accrued fines.
The library reserves the right to recall borrowed materials at any time.
General Stacks, Special Collections, and Audio-Visual Materials
You may renew General Stacks, Special Collections, and Audio-Visual (VHS, DVD) materials one of two ways:
During regular library hours at the Circulation Desk.
General Stacks, Special Collections, and Audio-Visual materials may be renewed twice.
All General Stacks, Special Collections, and Audio-Visual materials will be due no later than the last day of class, regardless of when materials were originally checked out.
Following the last day of class and during the final exam period, all General Stacks, Special Collections, and Audio-Visual materials will be checked out and renewed for a one-day loan period.
Renewals online and at the Circulation Desk both count towards the total number of times an item may be renewed.
Renewals extend the due date from the date renewed, not the date due.
