Why is it important to be registered and vote?
HPB: Remember that local elections matter,
as long-term decisions are often made at the local level. We encourage students to get involved in their communities–run for an office, make a difference. Our rights are important, and to lose them would be unthinkable.
3 ways an individual can become an informed voter?
HPB: Stay attuned to the issues that matter to you, both short term and long term, as well as locally and nationally.
Determine which candidates best address those issues and promote the collective interests of the world in which we live.
Look for politicians who want to serve all the people, not just a narrow slice.
What advice would you give to current students about advocacy and activism?
HPB: Stay informed. Access more than one news outlet. Read to expand your world, by taking in the experiences and advice of advocates and activists. Engage with organizations and people you may not have expected to. Stay current through webinars, master classes and podcasts, then decide for yourself what is relevant to your course.
