FOX 8 WGHP recently featured Bennett College students for their hands-on engagement with food justice in Greensboro.
In a report by Melissa Radamaker, viewers learned about the College’s innovative Gardening and Food Justice course led by Dr. Anne C. Hayes, Executive Director of Global & Interdisciplinary Studies and Sustainability Lead. The story highlighted how Bennett students examined food insecurity and food apartheid not only through academic study but through direct community engagement.
Students volunteered at local food banks, cultivated produce in the campus garden, and met with community leaders addressing inequities in historically underserved neighborhoods. The segment also featured student voices — including a Fulbright scholar visiting from Morocco — underscoring Bennett’s global reach and local impact.
Dr. Hayes articulated the course’s dual mission: to cultivate civic responsibility while connecting students with changemakers transforming food systems.
