Exploring Success in The Business Strategy Game
Recent graduate and former SGA President Shelby Fogan ’25 has been named an “Industry Champion” in a global business simulation, The Business Strategy Game, used by more than 400 colleges and universities across 43 countries. In the simulation, students manage an athletic footwear company over a simulated 20-year period. Shelby’s company ranked among the Top 100 globally, achieving superior financial performance and market leadership in a highly competitive industry setting.
“I was given the opportunity to make decisions in each area of the business to [try to meet specific performance goals],” Shelby said. “It’s really nice to be acknowledged for the work I was doing in the simulation. Professor McNeil really gave me the keys to be successful and taught us strategies real businesses use.”
Shelby was mentored by Professor Tammy McNeil, M.S., Assistant Professor of Business, through her Strategic Management Capstone Course, which challenges students with real-world business decision-making in areas like production, workforce management, global operations, and strategic planning.
Professor McNeil emphasized the value of the experience, noting that the simulation mirrors real-world business challenges and decision-making processes. “It gives students real-life experiences; they get an opportunity to get engrossed in what decisions business owners and managers and supervisors make on a daily basis.”
According to Professor McNeil, Shelby put Bennett back on the map because she had not had a student’s company from the College win in the last couple of years. “This is significant for Bennett College, for the class, and for Shelby.”
Shelby’s achievement not only marks a personal milestone but also reflects her dedication to learning, leadership, and excellence. This Belle is destined for great things, and we’re excited to see where her journey leads!
