The Green Team at Bennett College will host a compelling discussion on the intersection of race, gender, and environmental justice with keynote speaker Dr. Monica White, author of Freedom Farmers, on Friday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Bennett College’s Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel.
Understanding the Impact of Black Women and Climate Change
Dr. White, the Distinguished Chair of Integrated Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a leading scholar on environmental and food justice. She made history as the first Black woman to earn tenure in both the College of Agricultural Life Sciences and the Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies. Her groundbreaking research examines how Black grassroots food systems combat hunger and oppression, positioning agriculture as a tool for resistance and resilience.
An Andrew Carnegie Fellow, Dr. White also directs the HBCU Project, an initiative dedicated to advancing agroecology at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Her work has garnered prestigious research grants and teaching awards, underscoring her influence in the field.
