Curriculum and Instruction
The Bennett College’s professional educators’ programs is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education.
“Bennett College is renowned for its intimate, engaging learning community that produces phenomenal women scholars and global leaders.” The Bennett College Educator Preparation Program aims to be recognized nationally for its inclusive, teacher preparation program, the completers of which are model educators based on their professionalism, expertise in student centered pedagogy, commitment to reflective teaching practice, and advocacy for global distinctive attitudes and knowledge for learning environments for positive change in education. The Bennett College EPP aligns with the four foci of the college as it prepares future educators.
Mission
Preparing Teachers As Facilitators of Learning in the Contemporary Global Community
The Curriculum and Instruction Program is committed to the preparation of teachers as educational leaders and facilitators of learning for a diverse population of students through the development and understanding of content, learning theory and teaching practices that address the interrelatedness of the cognitive, emotional, social, psychomotor and affective domains. It is also the Unit’s mission to provide local, regional, national, and international leadership in teacher education.
To enable the department to achieve its vision, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Division of Professional Studies is committed to the preparation of teachers as facilitators of learning through:
- the development and understanding of learning theory and teaching practices that address the interrelatedness of the cognitive, emotional, social, psychomotor, and affective domains
- to provide local, regional, national and international leadership in teacher education
- for the Curriculum & Instruction administrative unit seeks to facilitate this preparation through leadership with a diverse and global context.

Department of Curriculum and Instruction Program Goals
To fulfill the Mission of Curriculum & Instruction each program develops specific performance objectives based on nine (9) overarching Department of Education Professional Program goals:
- Goal 1: Faculty and candidates demonstrate effective reflective teaching practices based on theories of teaching and learning
- Goal 2: Faculty and candidates demonstrate effective reflective practices based on Diversity/Global Studies
- Goal 3: Faculty and candidates demonstrate effective performance-based assessment
