Use of the Bennett College Logo, Name and Other Official Marks
Bennett College’s name, logo, and other official marks are critical assets of the institution. The College has an obligation to protect these assets in the advancement of the College’s mission for the following reasons:
Protect the Mission and Community
- A college’s identity is not just a logo — it represents a community of trust among students, alumnae, faculty, and donors.
- Protecting that identity preserves the authenticity of communications that advance the mission rather than distract or divide.
Preserve Brand Integrity and Reputation
- The college’s name and logo represent its values, history, and reputation.
- Unauthorized use can dilute the brand, confuse the public, and undermine official communications.
- Protecting the mark ensures that only materials and messages consistent with the college’s mission carry its identity.
Prevent Misrepresentation or Reputational Harm
- If individuals, groups, or third parties use the name or logo without authorization, they may imply endorsement or affiliation with the college.
- This is especially risky when used in ways that conflict with institutional values, public policy, or accreditation standards.
- Enforcement safeguards the college’s ability to control its public image and narrative.
Safeguard Fundraising, Licensing, and Revenue Streams
- The name and logo often appear on merchandise, promotional items, and donor recognition materials.
- Licensing programs (e.g., through CLC or other collegiate licensing partners) depend on strong, enforceable marks.
- Unauthorized use or imitation can divert potential revenue and weaken official licensing relationships with vendors or corporate sponsors.
Maintain Institutional Consistency and Trust
- A consistent, authorized identity across all platforms — website, signage, apparel, campaigns, and communications — helps the public recognize and trust the college’s voice.
- Alumnae, donors, and partners rely on that consistency when deciding whether to engage or give.
- Brand discipline signals professionalism, stability, and institutional maturity, especially to foundations and accrediting bodies.
Ensure Compliance with Accreditation and Governance Standards
- Accrediting agencies and governing boards expect colleges to demonstrate control over all official representations of the institution.
- Misuse by unrecognized groups can raise questions about institutional control and oversight, potentially affecting compliance or fundraising standing (IRS, CASE, and AGB all reinforce this).
ENFORCEMENT
- Unauthorized use of Bennett’s name, logo, or other marks may lead to legal action taken by the College.
- Additionally, the College has the right to seek removal of its name or logo from social media platforms if authorization has not been provided or if it has been revoked.
FOR INFORMATION ON LICENSING
- If you are interested in utilizing Bennett College’s name, logos, or other marks for any purpose, you must obtain prior authorization.
