Bennett College Hosts Author Brianna Laren to Discuss her Latest Book, Edge Control for the Soul

Brianna Laren’s books are love letters to black women, serving as a reminder that they are enough. Laren is a writer, filmmaker, and mom of two. Bennett College will host Laren on February 3, 2023, at 5:30 pm eastern standard time, for a virtual interview with President Walsh to discuss her poetry book, Edge Control for the Soul.
Laren was born in Maryland and raised in Washington D.C., and has been writing poems, plays, and stories since childhood. Her book, Edge Control for the Soul was on Essence Magazine’s 21 books We Can’t Wait To Read. According to Essence Magazine, “Brianna Laren looks to the natural hair lexicon to describe daily obstacles Black women face in this book of poetry. Merging Black beauty rituals with self-discovery, she presents a journey from ‘breakage’ to ‘new growth.’”
Laren seamlessly interweaves the road to self-discovery with the natural hair journey. She takes readers on a profound voyage through depression “breakage”, self-love “protective styles”, and overcoming “new growth.”
Brianna Laren is living out her purpose of creating stories, characters, and content that positively impact the lives of others. Join us, virtually, in celebration of her life and work. Laren will also be doing a poetry reading and discussion at an event by a student-led initiative called BEaUty Club, founded by Zairen Jackson and Lanell Huddleson.
