GREENSBORO, N.C. – Travis Mitchell, chief content officer for UNC-TV, Public Media North Carolina, will serve as Bennett College’s 2019 Honors Convocation Speaker today.
Honors Convocation begins at 11 a.m. inside the Annie Merner Pfeiffer Chapel on Bennett’s campus.
Mitchell, who assumed his position at UNC-TV in the fall of 2017, is responsible for ensuring that Public Media North Carolina’s statewide public media network, comprised of four channels and online properties, has the necessary content to make its services viable, relevant and strong for viewers, members and other stakeholders.
He also oversees all content initiatives, both internal and external, across multiple platforms and formats to drive viewership and membership growth. Moreover, as a key member of Public Media North Carolina’s senior leadership team, Mitchell helps to set organizational-wide priorities and strategies and provides strategic leadership and editorial vision for all content, educational services, programming and production services.
Mitchell and his team were responsible for producing a nearly seven-minute video during Bennett College’s recent successful #StandWithBennett Campaign that, to date, has raised $9.5 million.
“We are delighted to have Travis Mitchell serve as our 2019 Honors Convocation speaker,” said Bennett President Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins. “I have no doubt that he will deliver an inspiring message for our students today, and I look forward to hearing him speak.”
Also during the Honors Convocation, Bennett alumna Alma P. Stokes ’64 will be recognized for her service to the College. Stokes, whose lengthy career in education included nine years as a classroom teacher and 21 years as a principal in Guilford County Schools, worked with Bennett alumnae Dr. Joyce Martin Dixon ’56 and the late Ava Taylor-Williams ’69 to redecorate several residence hall parlors.
After the Honors Convocation, a reception will be held in the Wilbur Steele Hall Art Gallery.
