Bennett graduate Qaleelah Smith is winner of trip to L.A. to participate in SUPERCHARGED® Summit by Kwanza Jones
2019 Bennett College graduate Qaleelah Smith has won a trip for two to Los Angeles to participate in the SUPERCHARGED® Summit by Kwanza Jones! The contest was open to members of Bennett’s 2019 graduation class, and all members of the class will receive a premium ticket to the SUPERCHARGED® Summit.
The Summit is being held on Saturday, Oct. 19. Smith plans to take her brother, Ishaq Smith, a student at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, with her. Smith traveled to L.A. during her sophomore and junior years for conferences; however, her brother has never visited the City of Angels.
“I was really surprised and really excited that I won,” Smith said. “I can’t wait to network and to meet a lot of people and to bond with Dr. Jones more than I was able to at graduation.”
Smith plans to attend medical school and hopes to become a surgeon. She’s leaning toward bariatrics and says the ability to network in L.A. will be invaluable.
During the SUPERCHARGED® Summit, participants work on building their fitness and confidence while learning ways to strengthen their communities.
“Although I donated the million dollars to Bennett College in February, that was just the beginning,” said Jones, who served as Bennett’s Commencement speaker on May 4 and was bestowed an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. “Beyond the money, I believe in creating opportunities. That’s why I held the contest.
“And, because Queen Belles do everything well, it means there is a commitment to lifelong learning and growth,” Jones continued. “That’s what the SUPERCHARGED Summit is all about – learning tools and skills that will be beneficial for your personal and professional development while expanding your network with powerful partnerships.”
Among the celebrities who participated in last year’s Summit are Earvin “Magic” Johnson and his wife, Cookie; Dolly Singh, founder and CEO of Thesis Couture; Felicia Alexander and Todd Wadler, co-founders of BoxUnion; and TV personalities Jake and Jazz Smollett.
“Last year’s SUPERCHARGED Summit was an amazing event, and this year I just had to include my sisters, my Belles,” Jones said.
