Bennett Hosts Virtual Commencement for Class of 2020

Greensboro, N.C. — On Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. Bennett College celebrated its graduating Belles with a virtual commencement. During the private video conference (Zoom) session, Belles and their families gathered around computers, laptops and phones to acknowledge each graduating senior.
The virtual ceremony was led by President Suzanne Walsh from Bennett College’s Journalism and Media Studies Studio and combined live and prerecorded footage. The commencement’s program included a theatrical performance by theater program visual arts and coordinator Tennille Foust, a welcome from President Walsh, an invocation led by college chaplain Rev. Natalie McLane, a slideshow of graduates in their regalia and on campus, along with messages from peers and alumnae. Journalist, host and actress Jamila Mustafa, addressed the graduating class encouraging them to confidently live their dreams and charging them to “…use today to make tomorrow’s legacy.”
Graduating Belles shared their excitement on social media, tweeting their accomplishments, “Thanks to Bennett College for making me the best BELLE I can be class of 2020 We Did It!!!!” posted Precious Smith, “It feels so weird being done with college. Like wow. Another milestone completed!” exclaimed Janiyah Shelton.
