Recent Bennett College Alumna, Brandy Lee ’26 has been accepted into the highly competitive 2026 DREaM Scholars Program, housed within the COMMAND Department at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
What Is the DREaM Scholars Program?
The DREaM (Defense Research Experience and Mentored Career Exploration) Scholars Program at UNCG is a selective, transformative initiative designed to empower undergraduate students in STEM fields. The program focuses on preparing students from underrepresented communities for a career in the Department of Defense through a combination of academic rigor and real-world experiences. Scholars are immersed in hands-on research experiences that go well beyond the classroom, developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that these careers demand.
Throughout the program, scholars will engage in a variety of defense-related activities, such as visiting the DEVCOM Soldier Center, attending organized seminars to raise awareness regarding high-impact research careers with the Army or Department of Defense, joining research teams with a soldier-focused approach, and more.
At its core, DREaM is built on mentorship. Accepted scholars are connected with faculty mentors and professionals in their fields who provide personalized guidance, helping students navigate both their academic journeys and their career aspirations. This kind of one-on-one investment is what sets the program apart — it’s not just about acquiring knowledge, it’s about building the confidence and capability to use it.
