In-Person Commencement Returns to Bennett College For 2022 After A Two-Year Hiatus
After two years of virtual ceremonies, we’re thrilled to welcome our Bennett Belles, Alumnae, Faculty, Staff, and community back to campus to attend this year’s commencement gathering.
On Saturday May 14, about seventy Bennett Belles, who are projected to successfully complete all degree requirements by the end of the academic year, will walk the stage in celebration!
We look forward to welcoming many of our Bennett community members to take part in the ceremony. The celebration will include speeches, readings, songs and more to commemorate the special day for our 2022 graduates. Among many notable names is Kwanza Jones, Chair of the Bennett College Board of Trustees, who will address the graduates personally.
President Walsh met with our senior class earlier this year to ask who they would like to speak at their commencement ceremony. The Belles requested someone who was dynamic and inspiring, who understands life’s journey full of highs and lows, and who is relatable to Black women today. We are proud to say we have delivered just that.
We welcome Ms. Tiffany Norwood as the 2022 Bennett College commencement keynote speaker. Ms. Norwood is a global serial tech entrepreneur, inventor, author, and storyteller with eight start-ups, two IPOs, and one patent under her belt. Recently named Entrepreneur of the Year at Cornell University, Ms. Norwood is the first Black woman to ever receive this award and we could not be more proud to host her here at Bennett College. However, this is not Ms. Norwood’s first connection with Bennett. Her cousin, Erica Cunningham, is also a Bennett Belle, Class of 1993, so Ms. Norwood will use this opportunity to be a bridge between the Ivy Leagues and HBCUs. Combining her impressive track record, decades of industry experience and a personal connection, we can’t wait to hear what Ms. Norwood has to share with our graduating Belles.
The commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 am on the Quad at the center of campus. If you are unable to attend live or would like to share the special day with others, the ceremony will also be live-streamed on our YouTube channel.
