Bennett College invites the community to a powerful evening of remembrance and reflection as part of its Centennial Celebration, marking 100 years of empowering women to learn and lead.
On Friday, February 27, 2026, Bennett College will host a special dinner theatre experience honoring its pivotal role in the historic Greensboro Sit-Ins. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., the evening will feature a staged reading of Rebellious, a compelling play by Mike Wiley, inspired by Dr. Linda Brown’s book Belles of Liberty. The production brings to life the courage, conviction, and collective action of the Bennett women who helped spark a national movement for civil rights.
The event will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the Global Learning Center, offering an intimate setting to honor the bravery of those who participated in the sit-in movement. Following the staged reading, attendees will have the rare opportunity to participate in a post-performance conversation with actual sit-in participants, who will share firsthand reflections on this defining moment in history.
Tickets are $10 per person and include dinner served alongside the performance.
This event, titled Prologue to the Sit-Ins, serves as both a tribute to the past and a reminder of Bennett College’s enduring legacy of social justice, leadership, and courageous women.
Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged.
We look forward to welcoming you to campus for this meaningful centennial experience—one that honors history while inspiring future generations to stand boldly for what is right.
